Dyadic / Group Theraplay Informed Support

Theraplay is a playful, relationship-focused therapy designed to enhance attachment, trust, and emotional regulation. It is based on principles of healthy parent-child interactions, such as nurturing, structure, engagement, and challenge, fostering secure relationships in a fun and supportive environment.

Dyadic Theraplay

Dyadic Theraplay involves one child and one caregiver working together with a therapist. This approach strengthens the bond between the child and caregiver by promoting positive interaction patterns and addressing relational challenges. Through guided, interactive activities, Dyadic Theraplay helps improve emotional connection, build trust, and create a sense of safety in the relationship.

Group Theraplay

Group Theraplay adapts the principles of Theraplay for small groups, such as classrooms, therapy groups, or family settings. It focuses on creating a sense of belonging and teamwork while encouraging social skills and emotional regulation. Group activities are designed to be engaging and inclusive, promoting cooperative interactions and fostering a supportive community among participants. We are finding this extremely helpful in the post-Covid era, where relational cues and socialisation have impacted children’s development and ability to be regulated to access learning.

Both Dyadic and Group Theraplay emphasise playful, emotionally attuned interactions to help individuals of all ages build stronger, healthier relationships.

Attachment Focused Support

A therapeutic space to consider what may be happening for you as a family, DDP informed and underpinned by attachment theory and the PACE model (Dan Hughes). Children impacted by developmental / relational trauma can get ‘stuck’ in patterns of behaviour that previously served them well, it helped them to survive. This can lead to difficulties in the present parent-child relationship, or sibling relationship. I can help you to consider what is happening for your family, what you bring as the adult and ways of helping you move to a place of connectedness, co-regulation and acceptance. Both parental support and family group sessions available.

Training and Bespoke Support

Bespoke consulting and training packages are available on request. Whether on emotional regulation, trauma and attachment, Beyond the Waves can deliver training on a range of subjects. We can offer support in transition meetings in education, consulting on trauma informed behaviour management policies within education settings.

Bespoke integrative packages of support are available for individual, dyadic and group interventions.
